The reason for such intense heat, as experts explain, is the weakening of the anticyclone from the Azores — high-pressure area that has historically provided Italy with milder and more stable summers, especially in the 1980s. This change is one piece of evidence of ongoing climate change.

Where will it be worst?On Friday and Saturday (June 27-28), many Italian cities, such as Rome, Florence, Turin, Venice and Verona , will be on the highest level of warning due to extreme heat . In some places, temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius .
